On June 7, the Designmuseum Denmark opened the exhibition DANISH MODERN. The exhibition unfolds the Danish design adventure from the 1920s to the 1970s, showcasing some of the most iconic Danish design objects and bringing back their popular ‘chair tunnel’.

Designmuseum Denmark’s new exhibition DANISH MODERN, invites guests on a design journey through Danish design icons mixed with lesser-known models by famous designers such as Børge Mogensen, Kaare Klint, Nanna Ditzel, Verner Panton, Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl, Cecilie Mainz, Poul Henningsen, Lis Ahlman and many more.

Danish Chairs from Floor to Ceiling

In the new exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark, the audience moves from room to room through an immersive exhibition design, which stages the different eras and designers. Here, the audience can get close to the designers through their personal belongings, drawings, and archive material.

The exhibition also brings back the popular ‘chair tunnel’ in a new and larger version with 125 chairs featuring both icons and unknown chairs from floor to ceiling. The chair tunnel works like a family tree of chair ‘relationships’ and tells the story of how Danish furniture draws inspiration from historical types from other countries.

Danish Modern on the World Map

The foundation for Danish Modern was laid in 1949 at Copenhagen Carpenters’ Guild’s annual exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark created in collaboration with several Danish furniture designers. The exhibition showcased Danish designer’s innovative method and good craftmanship. This led to traveling exhibitions in the USA and Canada in the 1950’s and 60s and entailed a great Scandinavian export of furniture and craftmanship and spawned the success of the Danish Modern brand.
