Share your cookie tin and win a cultural journey to Copenhagen

As highlighted in the iconic Saturday Night Live sketch and reported by the New York Times, the Danish butter cookie tin has become a cherished staple in many American households. Often repurposed as sewing kits or keepsake containers, the tin evokes nostalgia and memories of the past – much in the same way as the classic blue design, adorned with idyllic images of thatched roofs and half-timbered houses, reflects a traditional vision of Denmark.

But beneath the lid of the Danish capital lies a culture far more dynamic. From cutting-edge gastronomy to immersive museums, Copenhagen invites people to showcase their own creative repurposing of the tin for a chance to win a trip to experience the city's vibrant cultural scene firsthand.

What can you win?

Wonderful Copenhagen, the tourism board for Denmark’s capital region, wants to award creativity with a cultural trip for two to Copenhagen in March 2025.

The prize includes:

  • Round-trip flights for two adults to Copenhagen
  • Four nights at the iconic 5-star Nimb Hotel in Tivoli Gardens, one of the oldest amusement parks in the world
  • A dining experience at Alchemist, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant blending art, theater, and gastronomy
  • Copenhagen Cards for the whole trip, granting access to more than 80 museums and attractions as well as free public transportation throughout the Capital Region, including to and from Copenhagen Airport

How to enter: get creative and post your take on the Danish butter cookie tin

Copenhagen: A city of culture and creativity

As the UNESCO World Capital of Architecture in 2023, Copenhagen stands out for its innovative urban design, creative culture, and commitment to sustainability. This campaign seeks to highlight the city’s dynamic identity, inviting Americans to experience more than just the nostalgia of Danish butter cookies.

"Copenhagen has a rich history which is symbolized by our famous cookie tin — but Copenhagen is so much more. It’s a vibrant cultural hub where creativity meets modern design. We’re excited to see how Americans reimagine their tins and reward the creativity with a prize that gives the winners a true Copenhagen experience," says Rikke Holm Petersen of Wonderful Copenhagen.
