Legacy

"Legacy" refers to lasting positive business and societal effects associated with hosting international meetings, trade fairs and congresses. Although Denmark is internationally recognised as a leading destination within Legacy, the potential remains largely untapped here at home.

Legacy is about creating closer interaction between Danish companies, organisations and public authorities and the many international delegates – researchers, specialists and decision-makers – who come to meetings, trade fairs and congresses in Denmark each year.

Closer interaction between the visiting international researchers/specialists and Danish companies, organisations, knowledge environments and public authorities can, among other things, strengthen knowledge transfer and talent attraction for Danish players, Danish players' international networks and collaboration, and the profiling of Danish solutions and competencies. The interaction can likewise be used to strengthen the development of Danish policies and frameworks within the congresses' fields.

An ambitious example of a sector-specific legacy vision could be to achieve a higher success rate within a specific cancer treatment in Denmark. But the ambitions and scope can vary according to resources and needs. And at the same time, the legacy vision/effort can be aimed at the customer, the congress participants, the host destination and/or a more global level.

Legacy processes are typically planned backwards. Relevant players are brought together (usually by the local Convention Bureau). An overall legacy vision is defined for a given event, which is then made concrete in more specific, short-term event goals as well as activities before, during and after the congress that can lead towards both the goals and the overall vision.

Under "The Danish legacy effort", you can read an idealised legacy scenario, among other things. But you can also find concrete cases from Copenhagen on Copenhagen Legacy Lab's website.
