Copenhagen Risk Navigator – International Strategies & Tools for Business Events
By enhancing risk awareness, promoting a culture of shared responsibility, and equipping stakeholders with practical tools for action, Copenhagen not only reinforces its own competitiveness but also helps shape a more resilient, sustainable, and future‑ready global business events industry

The Copenhagen Convention Bureau has long believed that leadership requires more than responding to challenges; it requires anticipating them, learning from them, and helping the wider ecosystem adapt with confidence. This belief is what inspired the development of the Copenhagen Risk Navigator - International Strategies & Tools for Business Events. It reflects our commitment to strengthening the foundations of the global business events community by fostering shared understanding, encouraging open dialogue, and championing a more proactive approach to risk.
Building on the Copenhagen Risk Assessment White Paper from 2023, the ambition of this project is to deepen risk knowledge across the global business events ecosystem and, importantly, to turn that knowledge into something practical and usable. Where the White Paper helped map the landscape, the Risk Navigator is about helping the industry move forward by offering strategies, tools, and insights that support a more consistent and proactive approach to risk management across the entire value chain.
The project represents a deeper investment in the industry’s long‑term resilience informed by diverse perspectives, cross‑sector expertise, and the collective experience of partners across the world. Our intention is to support a shift in mindset: from viewing risk as something to avoid, to recognising it as something to understand, manage, and navigate together.
The Copenhagen Risk Navigator aims to elevate risk literacy by offering comprehensive strategies and adaptable tools that help stakeholders integrate risk assessment into everyday decision‑making. These resources are designed to be practical, scalable, and relevant across diverse organisational contexts. It is the hope that the project’s findings and recommendations will be widely shared and actively applied, supporting ongoing upskilling across the global business events industry.
The project is conducted in collaboration with our valued partners FERMA (Federation of European Risk Management Associations) and RIMS (Risk and Insurance Management Society), with GainingEdge serving as our consultants.

About the Copenhagen Risk Assessment project
Research, interviews and online surveys were conducted during spring 2023 to uncover challenges and explore potential opportunities for change. Risk Management principles have been adapted to the meetings industry and have been produced by Danish risk management experts. The white paper focuses on three risk pillars – strategic, financial, and operational – which are key parts of the business events industry. Due to the nature of the survey respondents, the paper has a strong European angle.
