The European Innovation Scoreboard – previously the Innovation Union Scoreboard – provides a comparative analysis of innovation performance in EU Member States, other European countries, and regional neighbours.

Denmark has open, excellent and attractive research systems

Denmark takes the second place among the EU Member States, performing above the EU average in all dimensions. Most notably in:

- Open, excellent and attractive research systems.
- Linkages and entrepreneurship.
- Intellectual assets; in particular in international scientific co-publications and public-private co-publications.

Investors, look to Copenhagen

Performance relative to the EU has increased from 26% above the EU average in 2008 to 34% in 2015.

In the 2016 Scoreboard, Denmark’s performance has improved for 14 indicators and on average most strongly in the dimensions human resources (5.3%) and economic effects (3.4%). Performance has declined in finance and support (- 2.0%), due to a decline in venture capital investments.

“The European Innovation Scoreboard confirms that Greater Copenhagen is an outstanding innovation hub. We have a highly educated work force, Danish SMEs are very innovative and successfully bring ideas to market, and the public-private collaboration in research and development is almost second to none. International investors have great opportunities for finding their next money spinner here, and we are ready to help”, says Claus Lønborg, CEO, Copenhagen Capacity.
